    Memory Cards/Drives

memory card is a none volatile flash drive which is been used to digitally store data. The memory cards are mostly used in portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, tables, laptops, games consoles and more…
The memory card industry is driven by consumer market mostly which strive for bigger capacity and smaller footprint.
The first memory cards form factor was PC Card (PCMCIA). The PCMCIA consumer market adaptation was not successful but the industrial market liked it very much. The PCMCIA is still been used today in legacy industrial applications.

During 1994 Compact Flash card (CF Card) was introduced, it was the first to break through into the consumer market. The CF card was adopted by many consumer electronic vendors and was widely spread. As always, the industrial/embedded industry lagged behind the consumer market in the adaptation aspect, on the other hand the industrial/embedded customers have utilized that factory externally well. The CF cards is still been used today in legacy and new projects. CF cards are mainly used to host the Operating System (OS) similar to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or Solid State Disk (SSD) used in standard computers. The new CF Cards has wide capacity starting from 256MB and up to 256GB, wide Flash types TLC, MLC, SLC, Extended Temperature MLC, Extended Temperature SLC and more…

Power failure mechanism implemented using hardware as super capacitors or software-Firmware (FW) has been introduced to the embedded/industrial market as well. the CF cards standard evolved greatly throughout the years improving the read and write speed and in the interface. The latest CF standard is named CFast, the CFast is based on SATA communication protocol. The CFast has externally fast read write performance. Memory Stick (MS), MultiMedia card (MMC), Secure Digital (SD), MiniSD Card, MicroSD (uSD) and many more standards had been introduced over the past 30 years. The only major standard which the industrial industry adopted is the MicroSD card. The following is mainly using for OS and data storage.

Offers: SLC, MLC and TLC Flash types. The cards are offered in standard/consumer (0c~60c), Industrial (-20c~85c) and Extended temp (-40c~85c).

Most of the USB flash drive sold today are using Tri-Level Cell (TLC) Flash drive, only industrial/embedded customers would use MLC or SLC USB flash drive modules.  The capacity of the USB flash drive is not definite as it depended on the amount of usable Flash percentage from the total installed flash. typically the true USB flash drive capacity will range between 85% to 96% from the
A USB flash drive, also known as a Disk-On-Key (DOK), USB stick, USB drive, pen drive, thumb drive and USB memory, is a portable data storage device that includes NAND Flash Memory with and internal USB2.0/USB3.0 controller. USB flash drives are typically removable and re-writable. The USB Flash drive was introduced by the end of last millennium by M-Systems with a target to replace 1.44″ and 3.5″, CD-ROM and DVD Floppy disks. The USB Flash drive adaptation was vast and fast.
original stated capacity. Each production batch will include variance of capacities.

The USB Flash drives has many consumer uses such as: backup, personal data transport, car infotainment storage expedition, Operating System (OS) installation, digital movie and songs storage and more.

The industrial customer will usually use USB Flash drive for the following applications: Marketing /Branding as free giveaway, Firmware (FW) or Software (SW) updates, Installation and recovery disks, Booting media mainly for Linux OS and for personal data. Supporting the industrial customer needs would requires special expertise and direct communication with the USB flash drive manufacture. Typically the industrial customer will need: External chassis and logo modifications, Burn-in of specific data with/without the option to remove it, capacity sorting, fixed configuration (Bill-Of-Material BOM), supporting very small capacity for legacy OS etc…

To-Team’s vendors are equipped and ready to support the industrial/embedded customer needs.
